June is National Pet Preparedness Month: What can you do?

What can you do for your pet during National Pet Preparedness Month? By now, summer is in full swing, and that means more time outside with our four-legged friends. That also means being prepared in case of tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, wildfires and flooding, so it’s best to plan ahead.

One thing to do is create a disaster preparedness kit in addition to your pet first aid kit. This kit would include contact information for pet friendly hotels both locally and within driving distance, pet’s medical information, identification, an I.D. tag including your own information, pet food, bowls for food and water, pet medications, pet carriers for cats & small dogs, leashes and harnesses for large dogs, bedding, toys, treats, cleaning supplies, garbage bags, cat litter and litter pan.

Also, include current or recent photos of your pet from various angles (especially special markings, like Bolt’s lightning bolt) can help, along with a photo of yourself and your family with the pet.

What kinds of things do you keep in your pet’s disaster preparedness kit?
