The Pet Safe Business Spotlight – Boogie N Pals

Pet Business Heroes

We like to celebrate our customers, particularly those that own/operate pet care businesses that have gone the extra mile through the ProPetHero course – learning how to become pet heroes. This sends a message to current and future clients that this business is demonstrating it has the best interest of your pet as their priority.

Today we are recognizing Wendy and Steve Abraham, the owners at Boogie N Pals, a dog walking & sitting company serving clients throughout Hollywood and Aventura, Florida.

I asked the Abraham’s to tell us about why they got into the pet care business, what sets them apart and how learning Pet First Aid and CPR has played an important part of the care they give.

What is the name of your business?

Dog Walking & Sitting With Boogie N Pals

Where is your business located?

We are based out of Hollywood, FL. We currently service South Broward and Aventura, which is in Miami-Dade County.

What caused you to start your dog care business?

Boogie

Our 11 year old Boston Terrier named Maverick lost his hearing at 9 months old.  This helped with our empathy for disadvantaged and disabled pets. Soon after, we rescued our next pup but we had to say goodbye to our Lucy too soon. She was a mini-dachshund and had developed a debilitating back problem at only 4 1/2 years old. Our hearts were broken. 4 years later we rescued our little guy named, Boogie. He was rambunctious and hyperactive. There’s a nickname for this borough of NYC called, “Boogie Down Bronx.” His colorful personality lent itself to the name that suits him. He is a hurricane Sandy survivor that had lost his siblings and was in need of a good home. We rescued Boogie when we lived in New York.  As a result of our love for dogs and other pets, we wanted to make sure all animals had the same opportunities that humans have at being happy. They are unable to speak so we advocate for them by helping their  potential owners, as their potential owners help them.

What is the most fulfilling part of owning/managing your business?

We take pride and joy knowing that we do as much as we can to give these 4-legged fur babies the best
lives that they deserve. We advocate healthy regular exercise, playtime, and walks (they vary depending on the dogs physical activity level). A healthy dog allows for healthy long lives. We love what we do, so we never have to go to work.

What is the most challenging part?

Many clients want their pups walked and taken care of at peak hours, which tend to be morning, noonish (lunch time), and early evening  (5pm-7pm). We give a 2 hour window. Pet safety is our priority, so we don’t want them holding it in longer than they need to. Playtime tends to make dogs want to do their business. What separates us from others in this field is that we actually listen to your dogs and their needs. We don’t speak English to your pups, we speak Doggish.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

We want to provide a full service dog daycare with a very comfortable and affordable place for pet owners to trust their pets in.

How has ProPetHero’s pet first aid & CPR certification course benefited your company?

We take our pet first aid kit with us for all pet visits from walking, sitting, and boarding. We are further trained to handle pet emergencies making for an easier time for vets to treat them in case of emergency. Clients trust their pets with us knowing that we treat their pets the same as though they were our own members of our family-safety for your pets, lots of love, attention, and play time.
